Slavery is the enforced servitude of one
person (a slave) to another or one group to
another. A slave has no personal rights and
is the property of another person through
birth, purchase, or capture. Slavery goes
back to prehistoric times but declined in
Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire.
Slavery was abolished in the British Empire
in 1833 and in the USA at the end of the
Civil War in 1865, but continues illegally in
some countries.
