  1. Slavery is the enforced servitude of one 
  2. person (a slave) to another or one group to 
  3. another. A slave has no personal rights and 
  4. is the property of another person through 
  5. birth, purchase, or capture. Slavery goes 
  6. back to prehistoric times but declined in 
  7. Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire. 
  8. Slavery was abolished in the British Empire 
  9. in 1833 and in the USA at the end of the 
  10. Civil War in 1865, but continues illegally in
  11. some countries.
